- I need some help on board but don’t plan to do any sailing - can I still find crew?
- We offer crew the position of ‘Day Worker’ which usually means that the crew join the boat in the morning, work throughout the day with a break for lunch until an agreed time in the evening for a set rate of pay. This is a great way get help with those outstanding maintenance jobs whilst in a marina, or find somebody locally with a specialist trade or skill.
- Should I pay crew who work/crew/sail on my boat?
- This depends on the level of experience that the crew has, and the amount of work they are expected to do whilst on board. If the crew are more ‘sailing companions’ than ‘crew’, it is often the case that they will be expected to contribute financially to the running of the boat, and housekeeping costs whilst on board. However if the crew are a little more experienced, or in the case of a delivery, it is usual that the crew are not paid, and neither do they contribute. In every case, skippers should clarify the financial situation to the crew before they join the boat so both parties are happy.
