burbon

Looking for mileage/experience building, fun and sailing adventure

Position (1st): Recreational Crew
Position (2nd): Delivery Crew
Age: 34
Nationality: Polish
Location: Poland

burbon: I'm not looking for job - just fun sailing/cruising, and opportunity to gain more and more experience (but of course if you would insist on paying me or refunding journey to/from the boat I wouldn't run away ;-) ). Have been skipper twice, day and night sailing on Croatian coast, 36-43ft. yachts with crew up to 10 people, ca. 200 hours. And much more as the 1st mate and crew on Baltic, North and Adriatic seas.
I'm quite good with all the onboard IT/navigation stuff, and electric instalations.
As I'm working full time, the most vacation I could have in a row is 2 weeks (max. 3).
For more advanced tasks like long distance yacht delivery I could possibly "recruit" my much more experienced friend (my age) with the highest rank for sailors in Poland - yacht captain, and maybe some other less qualified crew - if needed.

Matt: I'm 28 and a keen sailor, taking 6 months out from my work as a Location Manager in the film industry to travel to the Americas and back by crewing onboard boat(s). It's an adventure I've wanted to do for a long time and this year finally I'm making time so it can fall into place.

I crewed on a delivery from Gibraltar to Tortola, B.V.I arriving just before Christmas. I'm currently looking for a boat onwards to the U.S or central America.

In the U.K I sail a GP14 dinghy. I really enjoy a challenge and am quick to learn new skills; I enjoy working as part of a close group of people and always pull my weight. I'm a hard working and committed individual. In my spare time I enjoy reading, cinema/the arts, playing and watching some sport and I take an interest in current affairs and politics. I'm laid back, love music, good company and easy conversation. I'm vegetarian and a good cook!ok!

coureurdesbois3: Hi !!

I am from St-Malo, France. I'm 25 years old, and I would like to board on your boat and live a great sailing experience!
I planned to reach New-Zealand before the end of May 2012, and I would love to make most of the travel by seas ! I actually found what I was looking for, 2 months ago on Findacrew, and I boarded on a sailing yatch in Italy early September, planning to sail until Panama... But unfortunately, we had an engıne proplem ın Sardınıa (sea water leavıng from every holes…not good !), and we’re stıll working on it! We’ll be able to fıx ıt of course, but now, we’re gettıng late to reach the Canarıas to joın the ARC and cross the Atlantıc (we have to be there mıd-november, we’re stıll ın Sardınya, the weather ıs not wıth us and we’ll have to spend one week at least ın gıbraltar to ınstall a self-steerıng !). So, our plan ıs now to fıx the engıne and reach Gıbraltar where we’ll pack the boat (she’ll waıt another year to cross the Atlantıc), and then…? I ınvested a lot of tıme, money and energy ın thıs adventure, and I can’t accept to stop ıt there, that’s why I’m lookıng for another boat to fınısh what I started (and whıch would fıt my schedules). I'll probably be in Spain early November, and of course I'm ready to move to join a boat in europe if necessary.

This experience was really great and I learned a lot, my captaın traıned and tested met the hard way, to be able to sail his 13,5m yatch (robert bruce design) just the 2 of us until Panama and İ learned a lot of thıng ın a short tıme (especially with hard weather conditions in Mediterranee). But I still have a lot to learn and I’m highly motivated and interested in discovering everything about riding a boat, engine repair (I'm learning a lot by this moment), boat maintenance,... I don’t mind doing chores aboard and every deckhand jobs (that's how every sailor begin ^^) but I really hope to be given some tasks with responsibility on the boat (as my actual captain do), to be considered in the sailing.

what about me :

I just graduated in mechanical engineering in last December; actually I got two degrees, a French one, and a Canadian one (I studied 3 wonderful years and a half in Québec). But for a few years now, I’ve wondered if engineer is really what I want to be...(I mean engineer in an office in front of computers ^^ this kind of engineer !) The few sailing experiences I had from now gave me a really good feeling, I think I found a lifestyle whìch fit with my personnality and I would like to discover more about it, and why not start a new career... let's dream !

I have natural relationship skills and easily create good contact with people. I travelled a lot (by earth though, all over American continent, Africa, Asia,…) and it gave me a great open-mindedness ! I can adapt to any people, environnement, culture or situation. I can take initiatives as orders, I can be really hard-working. I also care for others and will make every possible efforts to ensure people on board have a really nice time !

I’m really sportive and healthy, resistant to tiredness, resistant to extremes conditions and environnements (I already kept long watches on really bad weather). I love adventure and unexpected situations, doing wild things, getting of the beaten tracks, sensations sports (climbing, cliff jumping, wild mountain bike riding, skiing or just trekking, diving, snorkeling …), and every other sports.

I love nature activities a lot too, I fish (since I'm a young boy, and I hope I'll fish on your boat !!!), hunt, trap, can built any shelter with few,…I’m resourceful and self-sufficient in wild.

Things I’m proud of :

I ran marathons and big mountains trails, trekked a lot (Himalaya, Alps, Appalachians,…), crossed France by foot (Compostelle pilgrimage), crossed Quebec bicycling, lived 4 months in Canadian Great North (did a lot of survival), did some humanitarian engineering in Africa.

Other things I like :
Good meal (cooked with love and fresh stuff, fresh fished, hunted or picked),cooking (necessarily ), social drinking (but I can abstain myself anytime ^^), music (try to play guitar and harmonica for a few years), contemplate the most beautiful sceneries (on earth or underwater) !!
