Looking for crewmembers from Norway to the Caribbean

Ahoy there!

I'm a 31 year old, who has spent the last four years living aboard and restoring a Maxi68 22 fot sailboat that I bought in the early pandemic.

It is a small, but seaworthy boat, that has already been used for major ocean crossings, most notably Terje Dahl with "Coco loco", who spent four years sailing in Polynesia after crossing the atlantic and pacific in 1980.

I paid 500€ for the boat, but have since spent over 10.000€ on refits, upgrades and repairs, changing the entire standing and running rigging, new spreaders, bought a new mainsail and jibs, replacing the hull-through and redone the hull with modern epoxy, redoing the electronics with a lithium battery bank, added solar, and installed an autopilot and an axiom chartplotter.

I just converted to electric propulsion, and plan on adding sheet to tiller self steering before departure.

I started paragliding and skydiving to get over my fear of heights, and have now put 2500nm under my keel to conquer my childhood fear of waves and open water.
So to really push myself, I am heading for the Caribbean this summer.

If you're looking for an adventure, I'd love to let you take part in mine, whether you wanna join for a short leg, or a passage!

You don't need prior experience, although I will not bring anyone on a major crossing without spending a week coastal hopping first, spending every night in port/at anchor.

This is to make sure you are confident with every aspect of the boat, and that we get along. I'm okay with people deciding that sailing (or sailing with me) isnt for them for whatever reason.

I also expect you to give my contact details to someone you trust before departure, and vice versa.

I'll pay all expenses relating to my boat, but you have to cover your own food, water and travel + shower and laundry in marinas.

I generally pay for marinas when they're the only option (but prefer anchoring if possible to save money), unless we decide to stay somewhere out of convenience/to explore. Then we'll split expenses.

You'll also have to do your share of chores relating to maintenance and repairs, cleaning and cooking. I don't mind if you prefer specific food (vegan etc), but you will have to cook your own meals, and be okay with me eating whatever in that case.

I don't drink alcohol, but don't mind if you do, as long as you are sober on watch.
Smoking is okay, as long as its done outside.
And no drugs are to be brought aboard, as that is a liability to my vessel. The same goes for any items that can get me in trouble with local authorities.

You'll need a valid passport, visa if necessary, and any mandatory vaccines if demanded by the country we visit.

Apart from that, I am slightly introverted, have social anxiety, and I am lgbt (bi). You need to be okay with that.

  • Boat descriptionThe maxi 68 is a swedish boat, produced from 1975 to the early 80's. Built on the lines of bigger boats, she has proven resilient on open water, having gone as far as Polynesia. Ive got two spinlock combined lifejackets and harnesses, jacklines, an axiom chartplotter, st2000+ autopilot, plb transponder and a handheld vhf. The interior is pretty spartan, with a table and two beds in the cabin, and a double bed with a portapotti underneath in the V-berth. Ive got a lithium housebank with a 500W (230V AC) inverter, solar panels, and a diesel heater. I just finished my solar electric build as well, with a 900W electric outboard, but have a 5hp twostroke for my 2,5m inflatable dinghy as backup.
