From El Hierro (Canary Island) to west Africa start December 2025
Call for Crew: Looking for fellow sailors aged 25-60 (please no couple) with some sailing experience (night watch), open for adventures, for one or more passages. Open-minded sailors with sufficent time, a sense of camaraderie, and an interest in participating in an artistic project are most welcome (with really low costs, 70€/week - food). As this sailing journey requires a good group dynamic, we can start getting to know each other as soon as possible - first via email, then through a video call.
Travel itinerary: Our journey will begin on the island of El Hierro (Canary Islands), departing after December 21st, 2025. We will set a course for the Cape Verde Islands – a 6 to 7-day sail – and make landfall on the island of Sal. From there we will sail leisurely towards São Vicente Island, with a more or less extended stop in Mindelo. Then we will sail the Leeward Islands before heading towards the African mainland – a 2 to 3-day sail – to Banjul, The Gambia (our port of entry). From Banjul, we can choose to either navigate up the Gambia River or sail north to the Saloum Delta National Park in Senegal. Later, departing again from Banjul, we will sail for 2 days to Bubaque, Guinea-Bissau (port of entry). Here, we will explore the remote Bijagós Archipelago. Before the end of March, we will set sail from the Bijagos (via Banjul) back to the Cape Verde Islands, concluding our voyage in Mindelo. To sum up we will spend around 3 to 4 weeks in each country. Crew members are welcome to join for periods ranging from one to several weeks. They can choose from various joining ports: El Hierro (Canary), Mindelo (Cape Verde), Banjul (The Gambia), or Bubaque (Guinea-Bissau).
Artistic project: Beyond sailing, this voyage features a collaborative artistic project. We will workshop a script I've written, „Echoes of a Sea Voyage"—a voice-driven fiction piece (with a few pictures/videos). We'll capture audio recordings of sounds and of our voices (the texts are mostly in english, but perfect english is not required) during the journey, bringing the characters and story to life. This is a low-pressure, work-in-progress with no deadline, created to add a layer of fiction to our daily life onboard. No prior experience is required, just a collaborative spirit and curiosity for sound and storytelling. The project explores themes of journey, sounds, imaginary, and our connection to the sea (more later).
Ciao Raffaele
