Open boat sailing, River Medway and Thames Estuary nr London

I've upgraded to a larger dinghy, a 16'6" GRP Beaufort, named Millie, and I think I need crew to enjoy sailing her.

She is 50 years old but solid built, and I have invested in new sails with deep reefs.

Intention is low tech, engineless picnic cruises and races with my not very sporty club. I do carry vhs and gps, but not for regular use. Millie carries 10' oars that can be deployed in a flat calm, if going out in a blow for a short sail they'll be left ashore.

Day sailing is restricted by tides, to 3hrs on the top of a tide, or 8 - 10hrs between two tides, but I can also camp ashore at low tide, or in the boat.

I have previously sailed single handed in a smaller boat, all over the estuary, having to set reefs, handle anchors, heave to etc will all be much easier with crew.

Crew's main job will be to helm the boat while I do everything else including serving meals and making the tea.

Don't worry I won't go on the foredeck until you're confident with the helm.

Destinations are a little limited for day sailing, but we can easily put ashore at Sheerness for a cafe breakfast on a two tide day, or Southend, or cross to the rivers Roach and Crouch via Havengore Bridge.

Perhaps next year I would like to make longer cruises along the Essex and Kent coasts and maybe get across to Calais but thats a long way from now, and not expected of you!

The idea is the sails can be reefed very short, so we can sail in any weather, at least with the protection of the Medway. It just depends how wet you want to get!

Can meet in London for coffee or a drink and get to know if you like, all quite relaxed.

Look forward to having you aboard.

Stephen
