Single-Hand Needs Antoher

I recently became the single-handed captain of a 44-foot twin screw motor yacht docked in Northern Virginia. She's too big for one person, and I will need to move her south to Florida in November, so I'm looking for someone to come along and help - mainly with lines when docking or ground tackle when anchoring, but any other help would be appreciated as well.

This will be an ICW-only trip - possibly with one or two other boats for most (if not all) of the journey.

Also, I work a remote job from the boat, so there will be some short-hop/anchor days or times when I have to spend several days either at anchor or in a marina.

Novices are welcome, but I need someone dependable who can handle pressure and is easy to get along with. And if we get on well, there's the chance for a longer-term relationship with further trips into the Caribbean, around SoFlo, etc - maybe even the Loop.

Costs are negotiable. I have to move the boat anyway, so for the trip south, I will cover the fuel and any costs for docking at marinas, but would expect the crew to cover their share of food and other expenses.

NOTE: So after posting this, I began reading the crew profiles, and found that pretty much everyone is looking for sailboats. I can't offer that, but what I can offer is a pretty sweet trip off the beaten path - and who knows...you may find you enjoy the dark side :)

Hit me up - let's talk about it.

  • Boat descriptionShe's a big girl - 44 LOA, 15.3 Beam, 4.5 draft - plenty of interior living space - and she's in great shape mechanically. Twin Ford Lehmans with 5300 hours and a Westerbeke genny with 4700 hours. She holds 500 gallons of fuel and close to 500 gallons of fresh water with a whole-house filtration system and VacuFlush freshwater heads. The crew will bunk in the V-berth, which is private, spacious, and nice - six drawers and a full-height hanging locker. They will also have their own head with a shower - separate entrance from the V-berth. Ground tackle is a Rocna 44 with 200 feet of 3/8 galvanized BBB chain - brand new - Lewmar Tigres windlass currently only wired for retrieval, but I'm working with Lewmar to get it wired to deploy as well. She has a Furuno RDP-139 that runs radar, depth, speed, and chartplotter...etc - however, I don't use the plotter. I have several Samsung tablets that run Argo/Navionics for navigation and route planning. She doesn't currently have an autopilot, but I'm working on that and hope to have a working one prior to setting out. Full galley - 8 cu ft fridge/freezer, two-burner GE electric stove, and a Magma Crossover propane cooking system on the flybridge with two 10-gal propane tanks in an external locker. There's a 10-foot West Marine RHIB, purchased brand new in March, and by the time I leave, I will have an outboard for it. For Internet access, I have Starlink Gen 2 converted to 12 volts - it works very well, even when underway. Also, my dog Sally lives aboard with me and will be making the trip. Her presence means you must love dogs and not be allergic... NOTE: There is ongoing (cosmetic) work being done on her, and some of that work may need to continue while underway. This includes a conversion of the old crew berth into a workshop/tool storage/laundry room and work on the teak decks. SAFETY: 2 bilge pumps - Primary is a 2500 GPH Rule installed at the lowest point, and the secondary/emergency is a 1500 GPH Whale installed mid-engine-room with a high-water alarm on the float switch.
