Sydney to New Zealand (April 2026)– Adventure Awaits (Option to Continue to Tonga!)

Ahoy! I’m the skipper of a sturdy and well-proven S&S34, a classic yacht that has already circumnavigated the globe with previous owners. She’s no luxury cruiser, but she’s tough, seaworthy, and built for adventure.

This April (2026), I’ll be sailing from Sydney to New Zealand, and I’m looking for two lucky souls to join me on the journey. There’s also the option to carry on further north afterwards, heading up to Tonga in May.

What I’m looking for:

Ideally you live in Sydney, so you can come aboard before the trip to get familiar with the boat and how she operates.

Some prior sailing experience would be great (though the right attitude and sense of adventure are just as important!). Being good in the galley is always a bonus!

Easygoing, fun, and up for the challenge of bluewater sailing.

I’ve hosted crew before on 3–4 week voyages, and it’s always been a fantastic experience. You can check my references in my profile to see for yourself.

If you’re keen on adventure, building miles, and sharing a once-in-a-lifetime crossing, drop me a message.

Fair winds,
Jon

Fantastic Skipper, Fantastic Guy

5

I sailed with Jon aboard Milanion a few times around Sydney Harbour and he has come out on my yacht, Gypsy, down in Tasmania. Jon is a fantastic skipper, highly knowledgeable, skilled and a great teacher. His yacht, Milanion is solid, safe and comfortable. Jon is a lovely guy, patient, relaxed and great fun.. I greatly enjoy his company and look forward to getting out sailing with him again. I can highly recommend Jon to anyone who wants to get out on the water.

What a trip!

I sailed Milanion with Jonny for a month along the coast of NSW. A solid captain, great teacher and very calm - I learned so much and had a great time in the process. Jonny's spear fishing skills meant that we rarely went without a variety of fresh fish. A great chef, Jonny's Ceviche was a personal highlight! Was a pleasure to crew for Jonny and cannot recommend highly enough to future crew members on Milanion.

Jon and I sailed from Sydney to Pittwater and stayed a few days on board Milanion. I enjoyed the experience a lot! Jon was an excellent captain and host in every way! Very well organised and I learned a lot!

Great Captain!

I spent 22 days onboard Milanion with Jon exploring the NSW coast. He’s a highly capable captain and a great teacher. I had my first two overnight passages onboard in some testing conditions, pushing my comfort zone but Jon kept a safe boat and made it fun. Also a keen spearo we hardly ever ran out of fresh fish which was brilliant. It was a pleasure to crew for him and I highly recommend it to anyone that gets the chance.
