Boat sitter - Permanent - Thailand

Please note that this is an unpaid position for the moment.

We are looking for a boat sitter for the Naga who wants to live onboard, to look after her, help in any potential refit work and hopefully host paying guests.

Ideally you are a person or a couple with experience from traditional vessels, tall ships etc. Any practical skills like carpentry, mechanics, rigging, electronics are useful qualifications but we are first and foremost looking for the right person for a long-term cooperation.

There is no sailing to be expected for a while because of damage to the rig but we might migrate back to Langkawi in the coming year. Otherwise the future of the Naga is not set so there are possibilities for a trustworthy and responsible person to join the effort of finding out how to work this ship.

  • Boat descriptionThe story of Naga Pelangi started off as a project to raise awareness of the unique ship building traditions of the Malaysian sea-farers. She was launched in 2007 and has since sailed as a charter boat around peninsular Malaysia. Since 2024 she has a new owner and an attempt at sailing to Europe was cut short due to a limited time frame and the oncoming hurricane season. Currently moored in Phuket she awaits further refit work before any longer voyaging can be considered. As the current owner is tied up with family obligations back home there is opportunity for a dependable person or couple to come stay onboard and give a helping hand to the running of this unique vessel. Feel free to reach out with any questions, ideas, collaborations etc.
