Time AUT 2 - Sailing With Friends
Dear sailing enthusiasts,
What do I mean by "sailing with friends"?
When I started sailing more than 50 years ago, I knew even as a boy that I would one day sail around the world. In recent years, as I've already begun "sailing with friends," I've developed a clear preference when choosing sailing companions: I prefer existing friends I already know or new acquaintances who could become friends in the future.
For my sailing companions, perfect sailing knowledge and skills aren't the most important thing (although it's nice if they already have some). Above all, I want to have a good time, live without drama, be able to plan and travel from day to day, get to know new people and cultures, be able to contribute when needed, and experience many other things.
To truly enjoy our time together and get to know each other well, it's best if the sailing trip isn't just a one-week event. I enjoy taking my sailing friends along for several weeks at a time, so we can truly become a team and get to know each other properly.
For this purpose, I've chosen a boat that isn't geared towards maximizing paying crew members, as is typical in charter companies, but rather towards genuine sailing experiences: discovering countries and landscapes, meeting new people, enjoying bays and harbors, local food, and cooking on board. The Sunbeam 53, at 53 ft / 16 m in length, offers, in addition to the owner's cabin, a further V-cabin in the bow and a bunk cabin, each accommodating two people. The saloon and galley are very spacious and furnished with traditional craftsmanship.
This makes it ideal for myself, the owner, along with one or two couples or two single individuals.
Time AUT 2 is equipped for maximum self-sufficiency with a watermaker, solar panels, a generator, and large tanks. This allows us to enjoy our time on the water independently of harbors or other infrastructure, even for just a few days at a time.
Besides enjoyment, safety, comfort, and style are paramount for me. The Time AUT 2 provides all crew members with PLBs, automatic life jackets, modern 3-point lifelines, as well as bed linens and towels.
In the winter of 2025/2026, the Time AUT 2 underwent a comprehensive refit. The program included replacing the shrouds and stays, installing a new copper underwater hull, equipping the boat with 1000W solar panels, installing modern lithium batteries, and upgrading the onboard electronics with AIS, DSC radio, and more.
A little about me: I just turned 67, am in good physical condition, love good food and wine, enjoy music and culture, like talking to interesting people, sharing my knowledge, or simply relaxing and enjoying some quiet time.

There's still so much to tell!

Bahama's to FL 2024
I spent three weeks on Thomas' yacht and from day one felt safe and secure due to his excellent sailing experience and knowledge. He was always very happy to share and teach, as well as making me feel very welcome and indeed part of his round the world adventure. Importantly, I was made to feel at home, something which is very important when there are just two of you for three weeks of intense sailing. We successfully caught and filleted a Mahi Mahi and Wahoo which was fantastic fun. I would thoroughly recommend crewing with Thomas and would very much welcome a chance to sail with him again.
