Surf trip from Fiji to Sumatra
I am the 53-year old owner and skipper of Galawa, a Privilege 435. I've spent the last 18 months sailing and surfing from French Polynesia to Fiji where the boat is now (I live in Sydney with my wife and children). In May this year I will sail to Indonesia via Vanuatu and Port Moresby and then spend 4-6 months surfing from one end of Indo to the other. At the end of the trip I will park the boat in Thailand or Malaysia and fly home. I have wife/adult kids/friends coming and going for a couple of weeks at a time but the 4 double cabins means there is space for new people. Couples are welcome. There would be one or two periods that I would park the boat in a marina and fly back to Sydney to visit my family. Crew would be welcome to stay on board and maintain the boat. I've surfed a lot in Indo and finding remote and uncrowded waves would be the focus. I'm looking for surfer/sailors with good low-key energy and good problem solving skills - this is almost more important than sailing skills. Indonesia is remote so electrical or mechanical expertise is highly valued. Capital costs like repairs, marina costs and maintenance are covered but fuel and food is shared along with the cooking, cleaning and boat work.
