Watch: S/V Cuan Law - Walkthrough
Chef - Permanent - British Virgin Islands
S/V Cuan Law is seeking a full time or temp Chef for the remainder of our 2026 season.
Cuan Law is a 105’ sailing trimaran running week-long, diving & sailing charters in the British Virgin Islands that consist of up to 20 guests and 7 crew.
All applicants must have current STCWs, Food Health and Safety Certificate (or equivalent), and a valid driver’s license. Applicants having a strong history in the hospitality industry are preferred.
On charter, the Chef will work with the assistance of the Steward/Stewardess each day to create a buffet-style breakfast & lunch, afternoon hours d’oeuvres, and a plated dinner and dessert. The chef is also responsible for all provisioning and must be able to work within a set budget.
Charter hours are long and, during the high season, our Chef should expect to finish charter on Saturday afternoon, and then begin work again on the next charter Sunday morning. All crew, including the Chef, are responsible for charter turnarounds.
For the full time position, the Chef is required to work non-charter weeks as well. This is a year-round, liveaboard experience where no onshore accommodation is required.
In addition to cooking crew lunch, the full time Chef responsibilities will include boat maintenance. Prior experience in painting, varnishing, basic woodworking skills, etc. will therefore be helpful. However, our small family company has over a 30+ years of experience in training crew, so we are always happy to teach new skills to those with a positive attitude and willingness to learn. This applies to the water sports experiences we offer to our guests on charter as well. We encourage all of our crew to enjoy diving, snorkeling, kayaking, waterskiing, wakeboarding, and Hobie cat sailing alongside our guests. We are therefore happy to teach when certifications are required.
Candidates holding a Powerboat Level 2 certificate are preferred.
S/V Cuan Law is a fun, family-style environment, where all crew demonstrate a friendly and outgoing demeanor, a strong work ethic, and excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
Specific Chef responsibilities include:
- Taking inventory of provisions, placing orders for deliveries, and shopping ashore. Understanding and adhering to payment arrangements for all provisions both on and off charter.
- Maintaining a clean and organized galley, including the fridge and freezer, and keeping on top of galley maintenance lists.
- Coordinating with Management about any dietary preferences or allergies, and effectively modifying the menu when necessary.
- Cooking breakfast, lunch, hors d’oeuvres, dinner & dessert on charter. Cooking basic lunches for the crew during workdays off charter.
- Effective communication and management of stewards/stewardesses on their galley days.
- Effective communication with the Captain about mealtimes and provisioning deliveries/shopping.
- Effective communication with the engineer about power usage, galley/fridge/freezer wash downs off charter, and any repairs that are needed.
- Effective communication with all crew regarding dinner wines, plating and serving meals, and other communal tasks on charter.
- Effective communication with Management regarding provisioning prices and proactively managing the budget.
- Working with the Captain & Engineer regarding all safety training drills.
- Seeing through your evening charter duties and boat watch responsibilities without issue or complaint.
Candidates currently residing in the BVI will be preferred. Please be sure that your current location is accurate when applying.
