Crew wanted

HI .....general cruising area of Great Barrier Island .Bay of islands ,Whangaroa .
The person that would be happiest on this Schooner is someone that is interested in traditional boats and cruising The skipper is not interested in 'crew' looking to be amused.... If you will do your part there is a fine experience here...
Crew is expected to share cooking .cleaning and all the things required to keep a vessel in good ,clean running condition.. individuals only sorry no teams .
Crew pays their part of food and fuel .

Cheers
Len

  • Boat descriptionThis Schooner was designed in 1923 L.F. Herreschoff design # 257 "The Joann" Some pictures to be found on the internet. This schooners' name is "Mary Harrigan launched in 1985 There is an article in WoodenBoat magazine no.244 June 2015 concerning this design and a few kind words about the "Mary Harrigan" I have been aboard since her launching and have sailed her over a 100,000 miles ,usually with just 2 total onboard I earned a US Coast Guard 100 Ton commercial ticket I ran a live aboard "Cruising Boat Seamanship course for WoodenBoat Magazine in the US and the Caribbean with over a 100 student/crew. I want to pass on what I have learned. Now in New Zealand.. A Permanent resident. A very capable vessel and Captain both have seen a lot of sea miles Crew is expected to do their part in keeping the Schooner clean ,orderly and safe. Crew is expected to do their part of cooking and clean up. The cruising area for this summer is the N.E. coast north of Auckland . Currently based in Whangaroa Northland. No couples ,just does not work for me or this ship. There just isn't much privacy i will do must best to pass on to crew any of what i have learned in over 60 years of boating. There is a tremendous sense of Fun and that with a capital F , To be in full control of 55,000 lbs of machine capable of developing 100's of horsepower is a thrill. One seldom obtained .. If it wasn't powerful Fun in the fullest sense of the word i would have quit a long time ago.... I'll share , It too is Fun...
