Tahiti to Honolulu

5

Sailed with Jay for over 3 weeks on a passage from Tahiti to Honolulu as novice crew. Jay was a good teacher and pretty patient throughout the whole trip. I was impressed by his organization and experience, which made the trip problem-free. He enjoys cooking and consistently made fresh bread every 3 days. It was a great opportunity to gain experience pulling lines, learning about storms (and how to manage safely in them), and the ins and out of managing sails. Wandersurf isn't a luxury boat and has the basic amenities, no shower, or refrigeration, and was a bit leaky, so if you're the sort that needs the finer things to feel comfortable Wandersurf won't be a great match for you. Thanks for welcoming me aboard Jay!

It took us 26 days and some change. It was an amazing experience and I felt save the whole time. Jay is the right guy if you want learn how to sail nor improve your skills. He is very knowledgeable, patience, organized and clean. It was a pleasure to sail aboard Wandersurf. She sails really good, very stable and safe. She is a true blue water sailboat. Epic Passage!!!

Had an amazing time and fantastic experience crossing the Pacific on Wandersurf with Jay! Awesome dude to hang with and I learned a ton along the way. An experience of a lifetime and one I will never forget! If you get a chance to get onboard...don't let the opportunity pass you by. I promise...you won't regret it!

Buena onda dude

I spent 2 months sailing with Jay on a 44ft yacht from Hawaii to the Solomon Islands. It wasn't his boat or mine. He was the first mate on board and was happy to pass on his wealth of sailing and life experience to me. He knows how to have fun, is tolerant, adventurous and knowledgeable. The dudes a legend. I can now confidently say hes a friend and even an inspiration. Looking forward to the day our boats are anchored side by side

If you love to sail (real sailing!) this is the boat for you!

I sailed with Jay when he picked up his new boat in Rhode Island to make the long trip back to Hawaii. I sailed with him from Rhode Ilsand down to Florida in 3 weeks, with a couple of 7 day trips out at sea. It was definetly an adventure, and an awesome experience to sail on this beauty with Jay, who is as avid a sailer as I have come accross. No matter what the seas brought us, we kept going. All sharing the cooking, the sunrises and sunsets. It was a magical experience and one I will never forget. Jay is also one of a kind - a real island guy. Highly recommend joining him in part of his journey and wish him safe sailing.

Safe, comfy, spacious boat

I had the opportunity to join Wandersurff on its Florida to Panama leg. I arrived a few weeks early in Ft Pierce where Jay was docked to help prep for the journey. I felt right at home on Wandersurf wich is a comfy and spacious boat. Me and Jay had lots of fun working on the boat, cooking awesome meals and going for midnight rips on the dinghy. Jay is a super relaxed dude, sailor, surfer, adventuror. The boat handles very well in big seas and feels very safe. I would defently join Wandersurf again.

Joined as crew on 1600-mile non-stop Caribbean passage

I sailed with Jay on the Wandersurf for a non-stop passage from Florida to Panama in February/March 2020, with two other crew members (Ben and Renny). Jay agreed to take me on as crew despite my complete lack of sailing experience, and was happy to teach me. Needless to say, I learned a ton and am super grateful. Jay is a fun, relaxed, and optimistic guy who also takes his responsibilities as captain very seriously. Although our trip had lots of ups and downs due to uncooperative weather and multiple mechanical issues (it ended up taking 20 days instead of the estimated 10-14), I never feared for my safety, and was grateful to have a good captain and crewmates. Jay often sounds impatient when he's under stress, but if you show him respect then he'll show respect back when it counts. I was impressed by his leadership ability. On the one or two occasions where I briefly lost my cool amid the stress of our bumpy passage, Jay stayed calm and effortlessly de-escalated. He's also totally at home at sea even for weeks at a time, which made him a positive influence during our drawn-out trip. I can imagine some other boats being an even better fit for my personality and travel preferences, but I'm glad to have sailed with the Wandersurf, and wouldn't talk anyone else out of doing the same. Wishing Jay the best of luck on his future travels, and I'd be happy to see him again sometime.
