Malta on my mind

After reaching Mississippi in late December, Oxford Maryland, 8-week trip of sailing and intercostal, I have fixed all the things I broke (generator, Cold box, etc...) Would like to hit Bahamas for winter but need a good shake out and what better way to meet new crew. Originally wanted to depart for Nova Scotia in May. You know how things take longer and cost more. But maybe after Bahama Islands. Then... the dream of Malta and Greek Islands is still alive. However, life itself is an adventure with a ship. Having made the east coast, any destination planned or unplanned is welcomed.
The 1st Mate.
One quality companion, female only, needed for each or all of the listed tasks, no couples or teams. Companion should be fit, disciplined, at least some minor sense of morals and humor, able to swim and know the stern from the bow. Pets, bicycles and children are loved but frowned upon. Cleaning is expected but will be shared. Cooking and other duties will also be shared. Following orders is expected but will be explained and not barked (unless stuck in a hurricane). I am not hung up on race for in my lifetime I have dated all of God's colors (you know the tune "red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight. . ."). More concerned with age – young enough to do the job and old enough to identify with (not necessary adopt) the captain's values.

The Captain.
Learned sailing as a kid, owned a 18' but admit my sea miles need building. I am a retired engineer, retired soldier (officer and a gentleman) looking to explore and have some fun. Raised in Fort Worth with a solid church going family of four kids – safe, trustworthy, honest, and give more than I take. Normally I am "up for anything" and I have had many lives to prove it. Pigeon Fancier, Airborne jumper, geek, video & music producer, amateur road racer, author (ask and I will give you the title, went to #9 in the military category at Amazon), public speaker (several states & Europe), college professor. . . fun and funny to be with, capable of holding your interest, for a while anyway. I’m free-thinking but generally lay it on the line and seldom hold much back.

  • Boat descriptionThis is a Cal 3-46 ketch with a center console. The davits with dingy puts it about 49’ for the sake of slip length. Fiberglass hull laid in 1977 and made heavy for blue water. It is a true ocean capable boat, low heeling with full shoal 5’ draft. Can be handled solo but best and easy with crew of two. It has very good equipment, two chart plotters and good radar. Brought it back from the state of Maryland in October and traveled-sailed south to gulf and then to Mississippi. Ship has been well loved and well care for, babied in fact. There are two private cabins, two heads, two showers plus the salon/galley. Also has a real engine room. It is a strong boat with solid bones.
