Watch: Sailing on Acheron
Cruising in Turkey, Greece and Caribbean in 2021
I am looking for a female sailing partner to accompany me on an extended cruise around the west coast of Turkey and the Greek Islands, starting mid April from Kas in Turkey. I am currently based in Kas in southern Turkey and sail regularly over the winter on fine days. Due to the current border dispute between Greece and Turkey I will start cruising from Kas in April up to Marmaris and Datca and then check out and go straight to Malta where it is possible to check in to the EU from Turkey. If the border between Turkey and Greece opens we will island hop across the Aegean, but if not it will be a straight 5-7 day passage. From Malta I plan to sail around Sicily before heading west to the Canaries and Cape Verde foran Atlantic crossing to the Caribbean.
I am looking for someone who is good company and likes the idea of cruising over long distances and exploring new places. Some sailing experience is preferred, but a good sense of humour and willingness to muck in are much more vital. I like to take things easy and typically sail 20-30 miles per day with longer passages between islands when required, stopping regularly at nice anchorages to chill out, swim and relax for a day or two before moving on. For the long ocean passages from Gibraltar to the Caribbean there will be additional crew onboard.
I have a beautiful, comfortable and spacious modern boat. Fully equipped for living aboard with WiFi, water maker, etc. She has three cabins and two heads with showers. She is also easy to sail and handle with electric winches and in mast furling, and a nice big code 0 headsail for sailing in light winds. I only put the motor on as a last resort! You will find me to be a good natured and patient skipper and friend. If you think you might be interested in accompanying me for part or all of the journey please get in touch and tell me a bit about yourself, experience and aspirations
An absolutely lovely experience
I had a wonderful week sailing with Jim. He is very generous with his knowledge and he was patient and communicative. He planned such an interesting itinerary with great sailing experience from Kas to Finike We also enjoyed several beautiful anchorages including sight seeing and dinners. It was a well rounded experience with technical learning and also getting a taste of the cruising lifestyle. Jim is a fascinating fellow. Very easy to talk to about everything under the sun. He is a gentleman.
