Watch: Welcome to Ocean Nomads

Adventure & Eco sail Galicia, Spain & Portugal exploring islands, Rias & Porto| Summer 2021

This summer we'll repeat again uniting Ocean Nomads in Galicia, explore the islands, sail to Porto and celebrate the love for the ocean. It’s a brilliant opportunity to sail with live aboards, in their soulful nomad homes (we'll be 1-4 vessels), to meet fellow ocean nomads, and explore if this lifestyle is for you or to simply keep that salt in your veins.

The region is a paradise on earth. It’s nowhere near as crowded as the Mediterranean. We have a few vessels aiming to make way or based there, as well as land-based nomads. AND 2021 is the special Holi year of the Camino of Santiago. Driven by passion and purpose for the love of the ocean, we’re on a mission to travel the seas, meet up and team-up with fellow salty souls, and live, be and do more consciously.

About this Sailing Adventure

This happening is organized rather spontaneous and without a fixed program. On purpose. We go with the wind and our feelings. This event is a gathering of ocean nomads vessels and members to keep the community spirit alive. Out there. Away from the internet.

Since most vessels are slowly heading south we unite this part of the voyage sailing from Galicia to Porto. Something that’s not possible to do when you simply rent a boat. It’ll be a diverse, nature-minded, shared adventure.

Everyone onboard is expected to take part in the running of the ship. It’s part of the fun, experience, development and epiphany moment creation.

The Camino the Santiago | Optionally adventure add-on :). To walk back from Porto to Galicia doing part of the Camino the Santiago. Or all of it ?

"I always had the dream to go sailing one day. But, like many, I did not grow up with sailing and I thought it’s something for the very wealthy. Now, thanks to the Ocean Nomads, I know different..
Last summer I had my first sailing experience on an Ocean Nomad Sailing Trip in Spain. I initially signed up for one week, but ended up staying 1,5 months, and sailed as part of the crew from Northern Spain to the Canaries Islands. On this trip, I met a lot of like-minded people with similar goals and dreams. I also realized that it is possible to learn sailing in a low-key, affordable way. After this trip, I got so inspired that I decided to buy my own sailboat. After some research, I decided to buy a previous sailboat of an Ocean Nomad friend that I just met, and together we sailed the boat from Ireland to Spain. Thanks to him I gained enough confidence to continue on my own. Without Ocean Nomads this would not have been possible. So if you are slightly interested in sailing, the ocean, meeting like-minded people and perhaps want to join a sailing trip in the future, have a look into Ocean Nomads! - Nadiem

  • Boat descriptionFor the upcoming expedition we collaborate again with a one-of-a-kind classic. Sail the ocean on her, with all safety measures in place and engine use to a minimum (no scheduled end-date). Sailing is what we’re going to do! When there’s no wind, we’ll jump into the 3000 deep blue. Happy, safe, and meaningful. 2 plates is all we broke on the last 2000 miles trip. She's one of the few classic vessels safely, legally taking souls out on the ocean without being on a tight schedule so we can actually sail and not engine. She’s beautiful. She’s solid. She’s big. She’s spacious. She’s super comfortable. She’s got soul. She lasts. Sailing ship Twister is a schooner built in 1902, with an impressive story to tell. Originally a fishing boat built out of wood, fifty-five years later, her wooden hull was replaced for a steel one so she could continue to fish. After 17 years in various ports, Twister was again rebuilt into the modern schooner that she now is. After the baptism in May 1999, under the name Twister, her speed since then proves the ship to be one of the fastest sailing ships of the Northern Europe sailing area. Renovated again in 2012, she was updated with all new safety features/equipment and all the modern comforts you could possibly want from a charter vessel. She sails under the highly regarded Dutch flag and complies with all related safety certificates. Her current owners are driven to sail her far, and with purpose. The aim is to facilitate memorable expeditions that people will treasure for life, and contribute towards a better planet. She has all the safetygear and professional crew will also join to comply with Dutch regulations. She's approved with all latest ocean necessities under Dutch law. She has sailed numerous ocean passages. What you'd need to bring is a good weather proof wear. The ship does have an awesome steering hut where we can shelter if it's cold or wet :) Learn about all trip and vessel details on our website www.oceannomads.co
