Looking to join a boat from Caribbean to Europe
Hello,
We are Elodie (29) & Théo (31), in a (long) gap year. After spending 9 months in New Zealand, we set off on a long sailing journey back to Europe!
We sailed more than 15,000 nm from New Zealand to Canary Islands (through the Tasman Sea, East Coast of Australia, Torres Strait, Broome, Indian Ocean, Cape of Good Hope, South Atlantic, St-Helena, North Atlantic). All of this on an old racing yacht, a 50ft Bruce Farr. We’re used to sleeping in narrow bunks and getting soaked in the cockpit after a sail change (no furlers onboard ?).
As we wanted to continue sailing, we are now sailing on board a Lagoon 380 to cross the Atlantic East to West. We left Gibraltar a few weeks ago and are now heading to St-Lucia after a few stops in Lanzarote and Cabo Verde). We plan to arrived in the end of december. ⛵️
Our project is (still) to go back to France within the right season in a couple of months and to set sails from Caribean to Europe in April (we are flexible). ?
Experience:
- Sailing courses in France
- Coastal cruising + some racing in New Zealand
- 15,000+ nm offshore on a Bruce Farr 50ft
- 1,500+ nm offshore on a Lagoon 380
- Boat refit & preparation for 3.5 months before departure: painting, woodwork, sewing, electrics, etc. Elodie specialized in sewing (lazy bag, canvas work, sail repairs) and Théo in navigation electronics/IT (Raymarine, Openplotter, Raspberry Pi, Starlink, …).
We sail in both French & English, and so far have never been seasick ?
We also love both all nautical activities (surfing, diving, swimming) and are always keen for a jump in the water!
We still have a lot to learn, but we already have good offshore experience: standing watches, sail changes, maneuvers, daily maintenance, repairs, and living onboard.
Our actuals objectives are more focus on : learning how to use a sextan if possible, improve our understanding of meteorological systems, gain confidence in the right decision to take according to the situation.
We’d love to keep sailing and learning in a safe environment, meet new people, discover new boats, and learn more along the way!
