Looking for a Competent Crew or Racing Crew position
Hi - I've just joined Crewbay. I'm interested in finding a position as a Competent Crew or Racing Crew.
I’m a lifelong learner. At sea I enjoy figuring out how things work, picking up new skills, and improving with every mile. I have discovered is that I really, really love sailing: racing, cruising, bobbing, exploring, or just taking it easy in a new anchorage. Sailing isn’t just a pastime; it’s a way to meet people, experience cultures, and keep life interesting.
Numbers matter less than experience, but if it helps: I’ve logged 13,000+ nautical miles and 3,000+ hours underway across a range of boats and conditions. Enough to know how to handle myself on deck and enough to keep learning with every passage.
Long passages have a way of revealing both habits and temperament. I am someone who gets along while remaining focused on safety.
If you like someone who can stand watch alone, tie a bowline, and turn a decent stew out of a rolling galley, we’ll probably get along just fine.

I’ve been fortunate to spend a lot of time offshore and on deliveries, including:
• October 2025: Repositioning an Offshore Logic/Farr 44’ from Nuku Hiva, Marquesas to Hilo, Hawaii.
• May 2023: 30-day passage from Hawaii to the Salish Sea aboard a Camper & Nicholson 38’. (Recommendations from this passage are available.)
Earlier deliveries include Newport Beach → San Francisco aboard the same Offshore Logic/Farr 44’, Seattle → San Francisco on a NY36, and Panama → San Diego on a Dufour A455.
Altogether, these passages total thousands of offshore miles across a variety of boats, conditions, and crew dynamics. Some of my best sailing memories involve freezing, rainy days… and some of the worst, too—but I tend to forget those. ?
I live, work, and play in and near Seattle, WA. I spent 23 years at the University of Washington’s Physics Department, then moved to King County Metro, where I’m now able to take advantage of seniority to get out on the water whenever I can.
I’m always happy to share a more detailed Sailing CV that elaborates on my experience, qualifications, and skills.

Sailing is how I explore the world, challenge myself, and connect with others who love being at sea. I thrive on long passages, tricky conditions, and the rhythm of a well-run watch; there is nothing quite like the feeling of a crew working together to make a boat hum. Each trip is a chance to see new places, learn new skills, and collect stories that last a lifetime.
I’ve sailed extensively along the North American west coast, across the Pacific to Hawaii, and on deliveries spanning Central America, Southern California, and beyond. Adventures still on my horizon include closing my small gap between San Diego and Long Beach, tackling Atlantic passages, and joining specific legs of multi-year voyages when the timing is right.
Whatever the passage, my aim is simple: to be a competent, dependable crew member who brings calm, practical energy to every watch and every tack. If the trip involves adventure—and maybe a decent stew—count me in, and I'll make sure the lines stay tidy!
Locally, I am available for Monday and Tuesday night racing. (Duck Dodgers please get in touch!)
