Watch: Some of my life on the road in Central America...

Looking for a Novice Crew, Friendship or Voluntary work position - Ready to Learn, Ready to Contribute

Hi everyone!
I want to find a passage from Puerto Rico to Columbia from mid May onward.
It's more than a just a passage for me, it really is a big step in a new way of living.

? From: Puerto Rico
? To: Colombia
? Available: Mid-May onward

I'm Geneviève, French, born on Reunion island, Indian Ocean, and currently wrapping up five years crossing the Americas by land. Puerto Rico is my last stop before Colombia.

Sailing in open sea is a new and important learning experience for me, one I intend to seriously develop. What I already have is a long history of living in places I wasn't from, doing real work alongside people, learning by doing, and figuring out how to be useful in situations I've never been in before.

Among other things I value: directness, gentleness, respect, kindness, authenticity, humor, humility, common sense.

On board I'm happy to keep things tidy, to cook, to help with kids or animals (I've worked with teenagers and kids for years and raised my daughter, now an amazing young woman, so I'm at ease around families), of course take watches and do whatever else needs doing.
I am really looking to learn to sail and would like to take part in everything that is life on board.
Basically I want to earn my place and learn while I'm at it.

I should also say something about who I am in a shared space, because that matters on a boat. I love to laugh. I tend to read situations and people well, and I show up with curiosity and enthusiasm. I know how to work hard, I'm reliable, and I bring warmth with clear boundaries. I keep my environment clean, first because that's how I like it, and I'm invested in contributing meaningfully wherever I am. I've spent years working in coexistence in communities that weren't mine originally, doing embedded work, building trust, navigating difference with curiosity rather than friction. Something tends to happen naturally when I'm in a room: people talk, open up. I've stopped questioning it, it always served me as well as those who talked to me so I am just grateful for it.

My idea of a good time is a long dinner, a real conversation, stories that make me rethink something I thought I knew.

I've never crossed an ocean on a boat but I spent seven years living and working in a traditional fishing village on the Mediterranean, and I have been out on the boats with the fishermen. Never once seasick. I know that's not the same as open water, so if it matters to you to do a test day while you're coastal in PR, I'm all for it.
I'm based on the west coast of PR and while we plan departure, if you need receiving Amazon packages or a place on land for a couple of nights while resetting your boat, it's a possibility, just keep in mind I'm based in the west of PR, in Aguada.

Here's the bigger picture: I'm heading to Colombia to work on a farm and learn permaculture and sustainable building with natural materials. I was born on an island, have lived on three continents, and I'm leaving another island now after two years here.
My connections with the people I love most involves traveling, and over the next few years I intend to learn to travel in a way that is sustainable, and so to alternate between my land-based ecological work and sailing to my loved ones, getting the most ethical of both worlds and avoiding planes. Learning to sail is the next honest step in that.

I speak French, English, and Spanish and have lots of stories to share, in either language. I hold a FR and US passport. Non-smoker. No drama. Easy to live with. Deep values. Love laughing. Love learning new things.

If needed, I have lots of references from people I've lived and worked with over the years, happy to share them.
If you want a sense of who I am before reaching out, you can find more about me at https://linktr.ee/colorsofawakening where the earlier years of my crossing of the Americas are documented, and here's a link to a short video that will give you an idea of what I've been up to while traveling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVkCx4Z8Uuk

If any of this sounds like someone you'd want on your boat, I'd love to hear from you :)
