Looking for a Friendship, Voluntary work, Mile building or Competent Crew
I’m Maria, a 31 year old Italian currently based in Auckland. I moved to New Zealand in 2024 to learn sailing and have since been actively sailing mainly on Stewart 34 and A-Class yachts. Over the past year I have regularly taken part in winter and summer regattas, with my longest sails including the Coastal Classic and the Kawau Regatta.
Alongside sailing, I have one year of hands-on experience working in boat building and refitting, mainly on classic wooden yachts and preparing boats for racing events. I enjoy the practical side of boating and I’m comfortable helping with deck work, maintenance, and general life onboard.
Outside sailing, I’m a marine biologist with a Master’s degree in Marine Conservation. I’m also a PADI Divemaster and certified freediver, and I have professional experience guiding people in marine environments. I’m enthusiastic, reliable, and enjoy being part of a team onboard. I’m happy to stand watches, cook (I’m Italian!), help with maintenance, and contribute to all aspects of life on board.
Ideally I would love to join a passage from New Zealand towards any Pacific island around late May or June, but I’m generally flexible and open to opportunities that fit with the rally schedule.
