Semi retired non-smoker. Want to continue my sailing experiences, knowledge, adventures and make friends

Hello all. I am hoping to gain lots of miles whilst helping as crew and, if possible, I would like to share the duties, responsibilities and experience of sailing European or Caribbean passages. I was a science teacher and Special Needs teacher for 25 years and retired from teaching in 2021. I became a teacher at the age of 36 and have had many other experiences in life before that - one of them being a father to my two (adult) sons. Another was HGV driving which I still do on an ad-hoc agency basis (usually 12 hour night shifts including emptying and loading two trailers per shift by hand which helps keep me active and fit) - so I am very capable of boat work, seamanship and long watches.

I became Day Skipper in 2008 after mastering to navigate the numerous dangerous reefs and rocks around the Channel Islands and French coast. I lived in Jersey at that time and owned my own Beneteau Oceanis Clipper 331 for 10 years. I sailed her to Liverpool in 2011 where I eventually sold her. I have over 3000NM miles including sailing from Malaga to the Canaries in November/December 2023 which included 5 night passages. I gained my Coastal Skipper qualification this year (2023) and my Yachtmaster In November 2023. I have also completed 3 weeks sailing around the Canary Islands in February 2024 and later this year I plan to become a commercially endorsed Professional Yachtmaster. I have taken a 12v DC marine course, a rigging and splicing course, and the AEC1 Diesel Engine course . I also have my ENG1 seafarers medical certificate and my First Aid at Sea certificate and the MCA Personal Survival Techniques Certificate. I am mechanically minded, practical, hands on, and like problem solving.

Character wise, I am easy going, reliable, honest, optimistic, patient, a listener and a learner. I am domesticated, tidy minded and can keep a clean ship. I am also very safety conscious and mindful of potential safety issues. In my teaching role I was trained in risk assessment and safeguarding. I have no allergies, illnesses, ailments or hang-ups and am fit and healthy. I enjoy watching sports, skiing and of course sailing. I have travelled extensively and still enjoy seeing the world. I have lots of time for children, animals and nature, and love passing on skills and knowledge.

Thank you for reading my advert - It's difficult trying to describe oneself! If you are interested in me as a crew member perhaps we can video link and meet that way. Many regards, Jamie.

I had the pleasure of embarking on a 10-day sailing journey with Jim, from Malaga to the Canary Islands, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience, thanks in large part to Jim's exceptional sailing skills and positive demeanor. Jim proved to be an incredibly adept sailor, displaying a remarkable ability to learn swiftly and maintain a composed demeanor even in challenging situations. His calm and steady presence during rough patches was reassuring, making the entire journey smoother for everyone on board. Jim's optimism was contagious; he consistently approached each day with a bright outlook, infusing the entire crew with a sense of enthusiasm and determination. His proactive approach to maintaining the boat ensured that everything ran smoothly, contributing significantly to the overall success of our voyage. During our challenging 5-day passage, Jim's dedication shone brightly. He willingly volunteered for numerous less desirable night shifts and duties, demonstrating not only his competence but also his selflessness and commitment to the team. His willingness to take on responsibilities, even in adverse conditions, showcased his strong work ethic and unwavering dedication to the crew's well-being. In summary, I wholeheartedly recommend Jim without hesitation. His exceptional sailing abilities, quick learning, calm demeanor, and willingness to go above and beyond make him an invaluable asset to any sailing team. It was truly a privilege to sail alongside him, and I am confident that anyone who has the opportunity to do so will find his contributions invaluable.
