Captain / First Mate – Yachtmaster Ocean – 10+ Years Med & Caribbean Charter Experience
Hi,
My name is Jesse Van Wyk and I am an experienced Yacht Captain and Marine Engineer with over 10 years in the superyacht and charter industry. I have worked extensively throughout the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Bahamas operating both sailing and motor yachts.
I hold an RYA Yachtmaster Ocean commercially endorsed for sail and power along with AEC 1 & 2 engineering certification, STCW and ENG1. Much of my career has been in dual Captain/Engineer roles where I was responsible for vessel operations, engineering systems, deck leadership, guest experience and maintenance management.
I am very hands-on and comfortable running deck operations, managing tender driving and water sports, coordinating maintenance schedules and ensuring vessels are maintained to the highest standards.
In addition to operational roles, I have also managed several major vessel refits acting as project manager directly with owners, contractors and shipyards to plan, source equipment and deliver upgrades on time and within budget.
I am currently exploring new opportunities as a Captain, First Mate or Bosun on either sailing or motor yachts.
I am also open to land-based maritime roles, villa management or estate management positions where my operational and technical experience can add value.
I am reliable, practical and calm under pressure and enjoy working in professional teams with a positive onboard culture.
