Looking for Adventure
I have a genuine passion for the sea and I am extremely interested in all sailing opportunities. I am 47 years old and single. I am about 6’2” and I am of medium build. I would describe myself as easy going and very approachable and I have a good sense of humour. I enjoy meeting new people and learning about other cultures. I am physically fit and I enjoy taking an active role in work. I enjoy practical hands-on work both technical and non technical and I have good general DIY maintenance skills. I worked in the telecommunications industry for about 15 years as an engineer so I have experience of fault finding on low voltage electrical systems. I am interested in both paid and unpaid deckhand work. Ideally I am looking for any long term cruising opportunities in any part of the world.
During the 1990s I was involved in professional sailing for approximately 2-3 years as a deckhand. I have experience of working on both sail and motor yachts as delivery crew, refit work and as a Deckhand. I have done other sailing since this time but purely for recreation and holidays etc. I have RYA and commercial sailing qualifications which include: RYA Yachtmaster theory, RYA Coastal practical, RYA Power boat level 2, RYA Dinghy level 2, RYA Sea survival course, RYA Diesel engine maintenance course, RYA Competent crew (Tallship), DTI Certificate of Competence in Telephony (Restricted) i.e. VHF+SSB operator’s licence, DoT Ships Captain Medical Training certificate and DoT First Aid at Sea certificate. I also have some yacht maintenance skills which include: hull and superstructure repair (GRP, wood and rubber inflatable boats), ships electrics and batteries, communications equipment, winches, pumps, water makers, diesel engines, outboards and rope splicing. I acquired a majority of these sailing qualifications and maintenance skills when I completed a 3 month Professional Crew Training course in Cowes on the Isle of Wight in 1993. In 1997-98 I ran my own yacht cleaning business in the UK. In 2002, I did a Transat with the STA on a Tallship from Tenerife to Barbados. In January 2014, I assisted an Owner/Skipper with a refit of a 96' wooden Schooner in Turkey.
I would like to add that my profile mentions that I am a smoker but I would class myself as an occasional smoker and I never smoke in the presence of others if this offends them.
