I am a very fit 58 year old early retiree. I enjoy hiking. backpacking, biking, wild swimming and just about any other sport you can think of. I live in Grenoble the heart of the French Alps. I retired after 20 years from an architectural company as a General Manager in the US. I love to associate with people of all ages and ethnicities . I am easy going and calm. I don't sit around I am always willing to help and learn something new. I also enjoy cooking I am not an expert but humbly I would say better than many. I have traveled extensively I enjoy conversations about nothing and everything :) Having fun and enjoying life.
In July/August 2017 I volunteered to transport a brand new cat 12M Bali Catana from La Rochelle France to Newport RI. There were 3 of us on board. I learned a lot on that trip from a very experienced French Captain. The longest stretch on the Atlantic war 30 days mostly under sail. We encountered everything squalls, winds, no winds and many days of clear skies and nice sailing 8 - 9 knots day after day. We all pitched in to cook clean and stand watch.
My goal is to learn more about sailing and eventually take my day skipper license. I have also done shorter sailing trips around Majorca some anchorages and some marina docking. We (2 people) sailed/motored to beautiful Sardinia I took my turns standing night watch. Auto pilot was not working so we were on manual the entire way. Most of the sailing was up wind so I have some basic knowledge tacking but we never jibbed so I can't claim that much. I can help in anchorage and docking I also know some basic sailing knots. On the short trip in the Med I was never sick or had any motion issues although the highest winds were only 25 -30 knots champagne sailing. My taste in music is a little off the beaten path like Leonard Cohen, Caro Emerald and Matt Simons but I also like Johnny Cash and Willy Nelson and even Andre Rieu. I like beer but I am not a heavy drinker. If you could use some help in sailing, pleasant company and don't mind teaching along the way I would love to meet you.
Now with a little experience under my belt I would like to introduce my wife to this beautiful sport, She is a also very fit and healthy a registered Nurse in the US. She is very social outgoing and great company. Willing to help in any way possible, cooking, cleaning organizing.
Our first sailing trip together was in the med on a 49 ft Jeaneau, We sailed the Ionian for 19 days in July 2019. So she now as a little appreciation for the sport as well. We plan to sail as a team. We look forward to hearing from you.
Our dream is to eventually circumnavigate the world.
