Looking to work, sail

I am looking for an opportunity to work, sail.

4 years studying Mathematics and Computer Science at the university in Slovenia.
9 months on a Danish wooden gaff rigged ketch. Rigging, electrical, navigation set-up, various. I also sailed with the boat around the fjord and led the crew.
With a partner, I upgraded a canoe into a sailing outrigger canoe and sailed it around the delta of Ebro in Spain.
Shipyard work in Latvia: 7 months of conversion to expedition vessel and maintenance of an old wooden Scottish fishing vessel, one and a half month solo rewiring of a 9m fiberglass sailing yacht observing ABYC standards.
2 sailboat deliveries, from preparation to sailing and fixing at sea. From Canary Islands to Ireland and Lisbon to Copenhagen.

Let me know what I can help you with and we can find a good exchange.

I knew Martin quite for a while as he was working in Skulte port (Latvia) on the boat belonging to Scottish captain who by the way left the reference right below mine. Since that boat unexpectedly was sold, Martin appeared literally on the pear with his belongings in the middle of freezing winter and covid travel restrictions. Knowing him as a nice guy I invited Martin to stay for a while at my family home. Although I didn`t planned to overhaul all electric installation on my 36 year old Vagabond 31, Martin took initiative and: • completely replaced all crappy corroded wires/terminals, • removed ton of the old useless wires left by previous owners due to upgrades of electronics/electric system, • developed so far non-existing wiring diagram of entire boat + optimized/enhanced it, • printed explaining tags on each significant wire…. for dummies, • significantly upgraded charging installation of the battery pack with sophisticated relays, fuses etc., • installed advanced multiplexer to get data from my outdated (NMEA 0183) AIS receiver/transponder on the chart plotter, laptop and mobile devices, as well as finally united all the rest of electronics in integrated system. • recorded videos with explanations, advices and instructions for the future, etc, etc, etc… Doing these things he carefully studied manuals of all devices - right/safe approach! Afterwards I finally realised how risky from a fire/safety point of view my boat was. Work done of course wasn`t just for a room&food, I paid according to my capacity but definitely wouldn`t ever afford all these enhancements if done by any company. I just wonder why Martin is so shy to emphasize his gifts and skills here in CrewBay. I saw his craftmanship on Scottish century old wooden boat doing carpentry and other tasks. Besides I was witness of Martin treated absolutely unfair by new owner of the Scottish boat while he was working on previously. He never lost self-control, didn`t rise the voice, replied by logical arguments. Really valuable trait of personality in the stressful situations out in the rough waters. Another valuable trait – he never complain on anything. On other hand, if he is in your crew, keep an eye whether Martin isn`t careless in regard of his wellbeing and comfort (sufficient clothing, footwear, watertight garments, nutrition etc.). And by the way, he is interesting conversation companion. We had hours of philosophical discussions where my English appeared too short.)) Now Martin finally got out of this covid deadlock situation and is doing what he dreamed of – moving sailboat over long distance in Atlantic. If you are looking for reliable and surprisingly skilled person in many areas (particularly for his age), look no further - Martin is THE ONE.

Magic Martin

Travelled 2000km through the sad, ugly and useless restrictions. Arrived to Latvia, walked to the boat, along the beaches with his backpack. 6 months onboard, much works accomplished, without complaining. Electrical, deck seams, carpentry, leather work, rope work plus many other tasks. So really, if you are looking for a great multi tasking crew member, contact Magic Martin : )
