Crew with bluewater experience
Hello, my name is Will (British, 35) and I arrived in South America having crewed on a Jeannau Sunrise 35 from Gibraltar to Gran Canaria, a Moody Marksman 47 across the Atlantic to the Caribbean, and a Fountaine Pajot Eleuthera 60 to Panama. After cycling down the Andes to the southern tip of the continent I joined a crew from Ushuaia to Rio de Janeiro on a custom Garcia 85.
Having grown up on the coast in the UK I have spent much of my life on or in the water. I regularly sailed and raced dinghies at my local club and subsequently spent 3 summers in France working as a dinghy instructor. As such I have a sound knowledge of the principles of sailing. I took my RYA Day Skipper qualification in 2019.
Other fun facts: I am a keen kitesurfer and musician, and a mechanical engineer. My most recent role involved designing autonomous submarines for deploymdown to 6000m and under the ice sheets, to measure key climate change metrics, and monitor zooplankton, bathymetry and more.
