Firefighter EMT / ASA 106~Yachtmaster Offshore
The most important part of a crewed at sea experience is knowing you are part of a team. Right from the start. It takes work and a conscious effort to be a team member. It is not just the dirty work of the boat that needs taking care of, it is the caring work on your team.

As first responder, I have had my COVID shots for months.

Sea Experience: I spent 6 months on the Bering Sea in the winter on a 200’ft factory trawler as a government observer. I have not spent any real time on a sailboat.

My goal is to sail around the world. This ad is part of building up hours and experience.
Certs/equivalents: I have my ASA 106 (I think that is the same as RYA : up to ~Yachtmaster offshore or IYT : up to ~Yachtmaster offshore)

I am looking to add experience, days and miles to my mind.

Other relevant experience you might find helpful: I have been a firefighter for 30 years (wildland, prescribed and a now structural). I am an EMT (emergency medical technician). I am also a university professor teaching ecology, evolution and conservation. I have been fixing my own cars and homes since I could hold a wrench. This includes wiring (though I have never worked on a boat). And while I just replaced the rear axle bearings in my Subaru, I have had no formal mechanical training. I am a self-taught welder, but I would not trust my welds to heavy loads without testing. I am also a blacksmith and melt bronze as a crazy hobby. I was SCUBA cert about 12 years ago (I’ll re-up when I get the chance) and I am more fish than most people. I would love to dive for food!

That is a whole lot to cram in a little space. I'll work on it more as my plans solidify.

My timeline: As I teach, I have my summers off and am planning to pick up hours and miles this summer. I am not sure where this will end up. But I will be free at the end of May.

I'll add more once I get a better feel for what people are looking for.
