Looking for boat in need of competent crew, Mile building or Delivery Crew position
I reside in the Northern Neck of Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay. I have been sailing for about 15 years and before that I served 4 years in the Navy, all aboard ship and half that time overseas. I now own and sail a Bristol 30 and a Bayfield 25. Over the last 10 years or so I have owned and restored a Westsail 32, Columbia 26, Pearson 30 and a Pearson Ariel. I have also in the last ten years managed a marina in Kinsale, Virginia.
As professional crew I have guided boat owners on the Chesapeake Bay (my stomping grounds), usually those boaters coming up the Intracoastal Waterway from Portsmith or Norfolk, VA to Cape May, NJ. Latest deliveries/crew assignments include a 1976 Pearson 365 for a month in the Bahamas before returning to the United States and continuing up the East coast to the Chesapeake Bay, approximately 950 nm. In 2022 as well as the Fall of 2023 I took delivery of a Bali 4.8 (48') catamaran from Conneticutt, USA to Nassau Bahamas. As first Mate my duties included watch scheduling, night watch while underway, helmsman, deckhand, boat maintenance, cooking, ...and of course cleaning. I also have experience with on board watermakers, chart plotters. AIS, diesel and gas engine maintenance and general boat maintenance.
Between Spring and Fall 2023 I held the position of First Mate aboard a chartered 100 year old, 45 foot Catboat based out of Saint Michaels, MD
As a U.S. Navy Veteran. I have approximately 15K nautical miles aboard ship and approximately 5000 NM as a civilian. I also served 4 years as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
I am looking to do more open ocean sailing, deliveries or simply a helping or a needed hand for your boat. And, I'm not too bad a cook either.
I AM YOUR GUY IF:
1. You want a capable crew member who understands that there is more to learn but willing to help with the skills I do have.
2. An honest and dependable crew member
3. A crew member who will try in every way to make your job easier and adhere to the needs of the boat and other crew members as a whole.
I AM NOT YOUR GUY IF:
1. You are looking for someone to party with.
2. You are lonely and want to share your vacation
3. I am to be a buffer between you and your significant other
4. You have no idea what you are doing as a boat owner. I am always willing to teach what I know but you are the captain...not me.
I'm interested in finding a position as a Competent Crew, First Mate, Mile building or Delivery Crew. I'm looking forward to meeting new people in the boating community!
Hard pressed to do any better than Rob
