Looking for a Novice Crew position
Hi - I've just joined Crewbay. I am from NW England, but retired at 53 to live and work in France for 17-years. I now spend winters in Southern Spain and summers holidaying and living in England.
I learned the basics of sailing in a Wayfairer on Outward-bound in 1970, owned my own canal boat in the 1980s, learned more detailed sailing safety etc on a 2-week Greek Flotilla holiday and then chartered a skippered yacht for 2-weeks in the BVI in 1979. So zero recent experience.
I love sailing, whereas my wife is the complete opposite - she prefers the look of the Gin Palaces moored up here in Spain. I am considering getting Competent Crew certificate from Gibraltar, but beforehand could be interested in crewing with an experienced skipper, if an opportunity became available.
I was a Consulting Civil Engineer before retirement and so possess problem solving skills. I am an OK BBQ and 2-ring cook and have a reasonable level of French, and can get by in Spanish.
Despite my considerable age, I am reasonably fit and cycle regularly. Travel and sharing costs is not a problem.
