Ready for an adventure!
Hi!°
My Name is Paul, nice to meet you!
Staccato CV:
Swiss, born in Iran (kicked out ´79), grew up in Switzerland and Austria, traveled the world, studied Film & Art, curated a Gallery & Cinema & Cultural Venue & run a Salon in Vienna (Salon Goldschlag) for the last 15 years. Love for crafts, skills in: carpentry & furniture making, renovations & interior design, refurbishing old electronic devices, Fashion Design & production & Analog Media (Working with Film, Photo & Audio).
Love to read & philosophise, big time film connoisseur / walking film encyclopaedia, like to think through problems & challenges, love to organise & execute (often somewhat pedantically). More of a doer than a talker (the phrase "can't" doesn't exist), also a dreamer but a realist at the same time.
I spent about 10 summers sailing my small 26-foot sailboat on Lake Constance, found my absolute Happy Place on the water and decided to switch to the open sea.
Flew for a few month to Cape Town this January to learn offshore sailing, joined a Yachtmaster Ocean course, did & passed all my shore-based theory courses, a couple of weeks of sailing (incl. over night sails), my STCW, SRC, Powerboat II, etc. Got an ENG1.
The plan was to sail with a crew of 8 to Lüderitz, St. Helena, Rio, Tristan & back to Cape Town.
Come back & complete the practical assessments for our Yachtmaster Ocean.
We prepared our boat and took care of the provisions, etc. but the crossing was canceled at the last moment by the sailing school.
Bummer. Nearly a year of preparation down the drain.
Flew back to Vienna, initially disappointed, but then got up again, straightened my crown & and now on my own in search of adventures at sea.
On a mission now, to cure my ocean withdrawal, find some likeminded people on a boat for an ocean crossing.
I will bring:
My own Sextant & plotting sheets (if needed even some old-school paper charts), a hand-bearing compass, all the gear for rough & cold ocean weather, my sewing & cooking skills (inkl. Coconut yogurt making magic), a broad assortment of good or useless stories, a crash course in Arthouse Film on my USB stick, endless motivation and persistence, tireless desire to learn new stuff, some morbid viennese Schmäh & the ability to remain silent (without feeling weird) & the ability to listen, etc.
Can´t wait to get out on the water again..
Starting mid June I am basically ready to go. Ready to fly long distance to crew for you!
Got my Yachtmaster Offshore & Ocean Mile Builder & Assessment scheduled for November & Dezember 2024.
If it's a delivery, you pay for my food and maybe my flights,
If it's a pleasure craft, I'm willing to share the cost of food, pay my own transportation, immigration/customs fees etc, but not for maintenance or spares (but I'm happy to help/pay with my manual skills).
if you can relate to my description & also fancy a great adventure, get in touch!
Best,
Paul
