Sea Miles 10,000+
I've owned my own boat since 1997. Ex RN Officer so had plenty of days and nights at sea. I firmly believe the most important skill on a boat is seamanship, an intuitive understanding and feel for the sea. I have sailed about 10,000 miles in 2021/22 I don’t know my total mileage at sea but it’s over 50,000 so fair to say I’m learning!. My profession is Health and Safety, so I like to be safe. I'm looking for crew to sail with, people who can become good sailing friends.

Boat descriptionThe Boat is a 53' Ketch with a large Genoa, Staysail, Spinnaker and Gennaker. The boat is set up for Blue Water Cruising, with all associated equipment and safety gear. However Crew would be expected to bring their own foul weather clothing. We have the usual electronics, Radar, GPS, Plotter, SSB, VHF. Autopilot, Wind, Speed, Depth, AIS. Also have solar panels so they keep on top of our power needs in most circumstances. She performs well and is safe Currently in the Eastern Caribbean looking forward to sailing until the foreseeable future. I would prefer long term crew but can be flexible.

8Island Sailing
I had a great time sailing the islands from Antigua to Dominica. Before getting on his boat i had never sailed in my life so he teached me all the basics and we worked as a team pretty fast. He has a lot of patience to tell you everything you need to know and very detailed. I learned so much about sailing and how a boat really works on the inside and outside. I recommend Paul to everybody that is looking for some good conversations, nice sailing and just having a good time :)

Fantastic Sailing
I have sailed over 2000 miles with Paul. He is a very knowledgable and safety conscious skipper who is always happy to share his wisdom and help others on their learning journey. The boat is well maintained and great fun to sail in all weathers. There are always plenty of cookies and laughs to be had on this vessel. I look forward to my next time on board.

Weekend sail
I had a privilege to sail with Paul 4 times now (10 days overall) and I cannot fault his skills as a skipper. He plans trips in detail, feeds the crew to excess, is patient in explaining basics of sailing to the beginners. There is a lot of banter on the boat and good mix of skills and female / male ratio. Have felt comfortable as a single female.

Weekend sail
Thanks Paul for a great weekend of sailing in the Solent! And thanks for the extra navigation lessons! Look forward to seeing you again soon as soon as weather allows. Paul was an excellent skipper and has a beautiful, safe and exciting boat. He is an excellent host and takes time to coach some of the less experienced crew. Great guy. Recommend strongly!

Weekend Sail
We had a great sail, Paul and the other crew helping us along our learning curve. Good laugh, sailing, sunshine and a few beers with nice people. Paul is a down to earth genuine guy.

Warning to crew (especially females!)
I joined this captain for what was supposed to be a 6-week sailing trip starting in Antigua. Before arrival, everything seemed well-organized and clearly communicated (shared costs only, friendly communication, another female crew member on board). However, the reality was very different. The boat was in poor, unhygienic condition, and more importantly, the situation onboard became unsafe. The other female crew member had already experienced inappropriate comments and unwanted physical contact, and confirmed that the captain gets intoxicated on alcohol on a daily basis. Shortly after my arrival, he began making false and degrading statements about me behind my back. When addressed, he refused any constructive conversation. His behavior escalated further during the trip. While intoxicated, he became aggressive and publicly confronted me, demanding I leave the boat immediately. So I did and went back to the boat. The other girl staying on the boat wanted to leave with me the same night. The situation escalated significantly when he withheld our passports and only returned them after we paid money he claimed we owed him — without giving us a fair chance to review the charges. We later found that we had been charged for items we did not use. This experience involved: Aggressive and intimidating behavior Heavy alcohol use Inappropriate conduct toward female crew Financial dishonesty Withholding of official documents (passports) We were fortunate to leave the boat safely with help from others, but this situation could have ended much worse. I strongly advise any crew — especially women traveling alone — to think carefully before joining this captain. What convinced me before the trip were the positive reviews of females on the page. Those were taken 2021. Between then and now things have significantly changed and I can only speak out a strong warning.
