I have been sailing on and off since the 1980s, with roughly 3,000 NM of coastal and offshore experience. Throughout my career I’ve managed complex projects requiring team building, tight deadlines, financial constraints, and thoughtful risk management. For example, I started a small flight school and taught people to use airplanes for personal transportation. That experience still shapes my approach to seamanship—structured training, calm decision-making, and a disciplined attitude toward risk management.

I’m starting the Ice Frontiers project to develop a more engaging and positive narrative around climate change over the next ten years. As part of this process, I’m assembling a team of volunteers with complementary strengths—offshore sailing, engineering, media, and cold-weather operations.

I’m looking for collaborators who value seamanship, curiosity, and purposeful work over “lifestyle cruising.”

  • Boat descriptionWe are finalizing the acquisition of a custom aluminum expedition yacht built for offshore and high-latitude sailing. The boat is expected to be 44–50 ft and will be based in Brest, where it will undergo a first round of refits in early 2026, including upgrades to the rigging, power systems, navigation systems, and safety equipment. Expected features include a protected cockpit or pilothouse, redundant heating and navigation systems, dual autopilots, a desalinator, and satellite communications. From March to May 2026, we will run a series of day sails, weekend outings, and short offshore trials to test the boat after refit and develop seamanship routines. These preparation sails support a planned summer 2026 expedition to the west coast of Svalbard. The Testing Crew does not need to commit to the full expedition. However, interested crew members may be considered for future Ice Frontiers voyages.
