Hello! My name is Suzanne. Having no idea about sailing a few years ago I boathitchhiked +30.000 nautical miles across oceans and seas to learn as much as I can. in 2018, I got my YachtMaster Offshore license so I can take you sailing and share what the magic is all about.

When I started looking into ocean travel by sail, seven years ago now, I had no idea about sailing and I didn’t have connections in sailing either. I struggled to find out how to get into travelling by sail, safely, with little budget and experience, and as I went on I struggled finding ‘my kind’ of people, those purpose-driven wild souls looking for adventure and making a positive impact.

For a few years I lived more at sea than land, ‘crewing/hitchhiking’ on about 50 different boats. Good, bad, and priceless experiences. If I learned one thing, it’s the people who make the experience, happy, safe, and meaningful! Offshore sailing requires deep respect for the ocean, and careful preparation and crew and boat selection. As I couldn’t find my tribe and value-matching vessels, I created it, into what’s now the Ocean Nomads network of which the most fast track ocean nomads lifestyle acceleration are the ocean nomads voyages.

By uniting you, your experiences, connections and stories, at sea, we can reach way further, help more, do more, and be more. We are at the forefront of what’s happening. And we can do a lot to make a positive impact.

To reach for the stars, we must surround ourselves with likeminded entrepreneurial salty souls, share knowledge, and inspire and cheerleader each other. So much more is possible if we join forces on our journeys. The best, going on a journey together! I wish for you to see for yourself how beautiful the ocean are! And hopefully ignite the superpower within you to take steps into a conscious nomadic life in or near the sea, and give back to the ocean, our playground, our home, our life. The pursuit of a healthy ocean and lifestyle are one and the same.

What excites me the most and what I believe can truly contribute to making the ocean healthier, is to share with others how beautiful the sailing lifestyle is, to see the big smiling faces, to share how beautiful the sea is, how valuable water and power is, what easy solutions we can implement to minimise our footprint and maximise our impact, and what happens when you put some a combo of happy / driven / curious / different nationality people together in a small boat. So many beautiful stories, moments and mini adventures to share. With Ocean Nomads I connect people to the ocean and to each other. I'd love to welcome you to the ocean nomads community!

I'm a qualified captain but NOT the skipper of the Twister. I'm not qualified for that. I'm merely bringing together an enthusiastic bunch of salty souls for the upcoming expedition.

Cheers Suzy,

  • Boat descriptionFor the upcoming expedition we collaborate again with a one-of-a-kind classic. Sail the ocean on her, with all safety measures in place and engine use to a minimum (no scheduled end-date). Sailing is what we’re going to do! When there’s no wind, we’ll jump into the 3000 deep blue. Happy, safe, and meaningful. 2 plates is all we broke on the last 2000 miles trip. She's one of the few classic vessels safely, legally taking souls out on the ocean without being on a tight schedule so we can actually sail and not engine. She’s beautiful. She’s solid. She’s big. She’s spacious. She’s super comfortable. She’s got soul. She lasts. Sailing ship Twister is a schooner built in 1902, with an impressive story to tell. Originally a fishing boat built out of wood, fifty-five years later, her wooden hull was replaced for a steel one so she could continue to fish. After 17 years in various ports, Twister was again rebuilt into the modern schooner that she now is. After the baptism in May 1999, under the name Twister, her speed since then proves the ship to be one of the fastest sailing ships of the Northern Europe sailing area. Renovated again in 2012, she was updated with all new safety features/equipment and all the modern comforts you could possibly want from a charter vessel. She sails under the highly regarded Dutch flag and complies with all related safety certificates. Her current owners are driven to sail her far, and with purpose. The aim is to facilitate memorable expeditions that people will treasure for life, and contribute towards a better planet. She has all the safetygear and professional crew will also join to comply with Dutch regulations. She's approved with all latest ocean necessities under Dutch law. She has sailed numerous ocean passages. What you'd need to bring is a good weather proof wear. The ship does have an awesome steering hut where we can shelter if it's cold or wet :) Learn about all trip and vessel details on our website www.oceannomads.co
