Sea Miles 10,000+
I started sailing and working on sailboats as a young boy growing up in Maryland. Single-handed a San Juan 23 for 2 years around the Okinawa Islands. And have been in the Pacific Northwest for the past 24 years. During that time I sail approximately 1000 miles / year, including 2 circumnavigations of Vancouver Island, and a trip to San Francisco and back. I have crewed on numerous Swiftsure races, and also 3 Vic-Maui races. Sailed solo from Seattle to Hawaii, Hawaii to Fiji and Fiji to Guam.
Currently, I am wintering over in Guam and CNMI. In March/April 2023 I will be sailing from Guam to PNG, Solomons, Vanuatu and Fiji.

Boat descriptionS/V Discovery is a fully equipped and spacious “furniture 40” custom cutter rigged sloop. She has a hard-dodger and hard Bimini with roll up shade and rain curtains. The cockpit is spacious and comfortable with 2 - 6.5’ long cushioned cockpit seats (long enough to sleep). Roller furling on both genoa and jib, and also in-mast roller furling with all lines led back to cockpit make her easy to sail single handed. She also carries an asymmetrical spinnaker. She has 2 cabins (fore and aft) and 2 heads. A full galley with 3-burner stove and oven, a freezer compartment and a separate refrigerator. A water maker provides a constant source of fresh water. The salon is very spacious. She is comfortable and easy to sail. Safety and comfort are a primary consideration onboard. She carries a fully stocked med-kit, and the captain is trained in advanced first aid. She carries a new 6-person Winslow life raft, 2 EPIRBs, and well-equipped rapid-ditch bag, as well as all other mandatory safety gear. S/V Discovery has 2 chart plotters, wind instrumentation, depth (including a lead line), AIS transceiver, radar, 3 VHF radios (2 hand-held), an Iridium Go satellite system (to stay connected), Predict Wind for weather reports, and a ham radio. All onboard systems are powered with 600+ watts of solar, and a wind generator. The autopilot steers her 99% of the time, and there is a spare autopilot system onboard. She also has an emergency tiller . Full details and upgrades, and crew info are maintained on personal website if you are interested in crewing onboard S/V Discovery.
