Deckhand - Temporary / Seasonal - $100% of tips - United States

Looking for crew knowledgable or relatively novice seeking experience with chartering and sailing, as well as getting time afloat. All non-sailing work ( cleaning, cooking, general maintenance) is shared with skipper. For sailing, crew will have four responsibilities: keeping an eye on traffic/crossing situations with knowledge of rules of the road when in close quarter (day sail charters only), handling of sheets and lines, reefing etc with skipper, assisting guests.

Most charters are day sails out of Newport, RI and do not involve any meal preparations. However, sharing meal preparation with skipper would be a nice addition. While skipper cooks don't expect the skipper to be THE cook.

If there are several days between charters expect to sail and visit places (sometimes the same ones) but in any case, expect to sail a fair amount.

This is a crew only position. Skipper is married and has two daughters in their 20's.

If you are looking for more time onboard please look at the posting for the Nova Scotia trip from Late July to Late August.

  • Boat descriptionCénou is a "performance cruiser". It has a generous sail plan, a rotating winged mast and is kept light. Cénou is a fun boat to sail as it can sail above wind speed in light air and keeps conservatively 200+ miles/day averages offshore. While it does not have the interior volume of the larger more well known catamaran there is plenty of space. The cockpit is very securing. The boat is well kept and looked after/upgraded as needed. - Safety: 6 pax liferaft (2018) Epirb 2018, one PLB and three AIS MOB devices. Sat phone, Garmin communication device, inflatable life jackets with harness, eight regular life jackets. - Electronics: Simrad plotter, radar, AIS. Furuno GPS, ICom radio, Raymarine Tri-Data portable radio. - Comfort: Large galley with one large fridge. Two toilets, one separate shower, heater. Three cabins. Radiator heating. Large solar array that provides on average 100% of electric needs. more info at www.sailthebue.com and Instagram @sailingtheblue
