Looking to join a family on board
We are a family of two - Kristin (35) and Jacob (11 in September) - based in Germany, both bilingual English-German.
We love travelling, both with our van and on the water. I, Kristin, have been travelling internationally (van/plane/boat) all my life and continued to do so with Jacob once he was born. We have always lived life a little out of the norm, travelling to Mongolia just the two of us when Jacob was 20 months old, touring France with our van one summer, going on a six-week road trip through the US last year, choosing a bilingual charter school over the regular school system.
Since our last sailing trip this summer the world is calling me more than ever. As for Jacob, I would like to give him the chance to explore even more of our beautiful planet while he is young, let him collect memories and impressions that will stay with him and create a wealth of experience for his later life. Jacob and I find that experiencing Earth’s wonders is even more fun when shared with other people. So we are looking for a family to join on board - and we are so excited already for what life is going to bring!
I learned to sail at age 6 and went on to competitive Optimist sailing as a child and 420 as a teenager. I also have sailing experience as crew onboard friends‘ and family‘s yachts. Most recently, I was crew in a delivery trip from Marmaris, Turkey to the Peloponnes, Greece on a Hallberg Rassy 42, followed by a sailing trip from the Peloponnes to southern Italy on a 44-foot catamaran.
I graduated with a PhD in Biology before going on to train as a Montessori teacher. I have teaching experience in adult education as well as over six years of charter school and online school teaching experience up to grade 10 (German school system - Realschule). As a young adult I lived abroad with other families while working as an Au Pair (twins aged 7, boy aged 11, girl aged 13).
Jacob first experienced life aboard when he was a toddler. Most recently, he was on board sailing from the Peloponnes to southern Italy. He is really interested in how boats work, enjoys learning how to do repairs by watching the adults and likes to help with those as he is able at 10 years old. Besides calm sailing conditions he has also experienced strong weather.
I am looking to join either as sailing crew to help with anything that life on board requires or in a teacher / homeschooling support position. Jacob is looking forward to getting to know new friends and playmates.
We would ideally (but not necessarily) board in Europe. We are most interested in sailing in the Mediterranean, an Atlantic crossing or even joining a round-the-world trip, but we are open to any route. We are free to board starting autumn 2025.
